Gulf of Alaska & Southcentral Ports

One-way Alaska voyages between the Lower 48 or Canada and Southcentral Alaska start or finish in Seward or Whittier, with most passengers flying in or out of Anchorage. Embarkation and disembarkation days here are often spent on transfer tours that combine the drive with wildlife, glaciers or a fjord cruise. It is also the jumping-off point for land extensions inland.

Gulf of Alaska & Southcentral — FAQ

How do I get from Anchorage to the ship?

Seward is roughly two and a half hours south of Anchorage by road or rail, and Whittier is about an hour and a half away through a long single-lane tunnel. Many transfer tours turn the trip into a sightseeing day with stops along Turnagain Arm.

Is it worth staying an extra day before or after the cruise?

Many travelers do, since flight timing to and from Alaska can be tight. An extra day allows a Kenai Fjords or Prince William Sound boat trip, or time in Anchorage itself, without racing to meet the ship.
